The Law Foundation of Ontario recently approved a two year $200,000 grant in support of Intersections.

Since its inception, Kingston City Police, OPP and Family and Children’s Services of FLA have referred over to 600 children and youth to Intersections in an effort to prevent future police and child welfare contact and help these children and youth secure the support they need to address the challenges that are bring them into contact with these agencies in the first place.

This grant will allow Intersection to continue to be a resource for police and child welfare staff when they come into contact with children and youth for issues not mandated by their intervention. Children and youth struggling with a mental health, substance use, developmental issue or parent/teen conflict often come into contact with police and or child welfare services for issues where these services are not the most appropriate agencies to respond. Families and youth are more likely to engage if they are connected to the most appropriate services early.  Having intersections available for these families will give them added support to address their needs, reduce their reliance on reactive service when not necessary and link families with more social supports. It is anticipated this new funding will support close to 200 children, youth and families across Kingston Frontenac Lennox and Addington counties.
